Semi Ellipsoidal Heads (also called ellipsoidal head, elliptical dish head)is the end caps on a cylindrical shaped pressure vessel which is made with carbon steel, stainless steel, cladding material and other alloy steel. The elliptical dish head is widely used in industrial storage or pressure vessels such as storage tanks, heat exchangers, towers or other equipments.

Our regular customer from Indonesia is boiler manufacturer and wholesaler. He needs semi ellipsoidal heads to produce deaerator equipment. Due to the ellipsoidal head isn’t standard, our dished head engineers make molds as per technical requirements. The elliptical dish head will be shipped to Surabaya in middle January.

Forming method: Hot stamping and cold spinning

Hot Stamping

Generally, the dished head with a large size and a thick steel plate needs to be hot pressed, and the hot pressing can improve the performance of the material and reduce the deformation resistance. After continuous pressing, the external dimensions of the workpiece should be measured to avoid an increase in the size of the workpiece due to thermal expansion of the mold. If necessary, appropriate measures should be taken to cool the mold, and the mold temperature should generally not exceed 250 °C.

Cold Spinning

During the cold spinning, the steel plate is subjected to severe strain, especially the arc transition zone and the straight flange of the edge of the seal, which are processed by the hoop compressive strain during the spinning process. Cold spinning heads generally require stress relief heat treatment.
